Dayton Gems News Release
The Dayton Gems were able to capture their third straight win on Sunday evening. Dayton defeated the Missouri Mavericks 6-2 at Hara Arena.
Kyle Bochek was the leading scorer for the evening. The forward recorded two goals for the Gems. It was just the second time this season Bochek has recorded multiple goals in a game.
Brett Lutes also had a strong performance for the Gems with three points for the game. Lutes recorded a goal in the first period and two assists in the third.
Derek MacIntyre stepped up for the Gems in front of the net. In only his second game in eight days, MacIntyre allowed just two goals and recorded 28 saves for the Gems. The win is his first since Feb. 17.
Lutes scored the opening goal of the game for the Gems. With a number of players from both teams in front of Missouri's goal, it's was Lutes who was able to slip a shot past the Mavericks' goaltender to give Dayton a 1-0 lead.
The lead would last just 13 second for the Gems. Missouri's Todd Griffith and Steven Later were able to find Mike Berry after the faceoff to tie the game at 1-1. The goal was Berry's 24th of the season.
The Gems regained the lead on a goal by Bochek in the second period. Bochek deflected a shot from Jonathan Ornelas to give Dayton the 2-1 advantage. Tim Hartung extended the lead with 4:34 remaining in the period to give Dayton a 3-1 lead.
Jonathan Ornelas, Bochek and Brandon Naurato gave the Gems some insurance room in the third period. The three each recorded a goal for Dayton as the Gems captured the 6-2 win.
The Gems will now start a four game road trip by going to Bossier-Shreveport for a game on Tuesday. The game will start at 7:35 p.m. Fans can go to the Watch Party at Boston's Bistro on North Main Street to watch the game with fellow fans.
The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
