BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (March 6, 2011)- Tyler Shelast scored a late empty net goal and picked up two assists, Joe Blaznek scored one of three Quad City Mallard power play goals and assisted on another and Obi Aduba provided what proved to be the game-winning man advantage goal in the second period as the Mallards defeated host Bloomington PrairieThunder 5-3 Sunday.

Aduba tipped in Blaznek's blast from the left point to snap a 2-2 tie at 15:34 of the second. The Mallards would nurse the 3-2 lead deep into third period before wrapping up the win with late empty net goals from Shelast- with 1:15 left in the game- and Mike McLean, who scored with just 3.3 seconds remaining.

The Mallards had to battle back to earn the victory after falling behind just one minute and 11 seconds into the game when the PrairieThunder's Ryan McLeod swept home Garrett Klotz's cross-crease pass.

The Mallards turned the game around by scoring two 5-on-3 power play goals in a minute and two seconds late in the first period. Blaznek's drive from the right wing circle evened the score at one with 1:02 left in the first. With just 1.2 seconds left in the period, Jake Riddle roofed a rebound to put Quad City on top 2-1

The PrairieThunder would tie the game at two when Brett Holmberg buried Bill Bagron's centering pass at 5:55 of the second period, but Aduba's response later in the second gave the Mallards the lead they kept the rest of the way.

The Mallards return to action at home Friday at 7:05 p.m. against the Evansville IceMen. All fans attending next Friday's game will receive free Mallards posters courtesy of Fox 18, Q106.5 and The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus.
