Mallards Clinch Playoff Berth

MOLINE, Ill. (March 6, 2011)- The Quad City Mallards this evening clinched a berth in the Central Hockey League's President's Cup playoffs by defeating the Bloomington PrairieThunder 5-2 in Bloomington while the Evansville IceMen lost to the Fort Wayne Komets 5-1.

The Mallards' win combined with the IceMen's defeat guarantees that ninth place Evansville cannot overtake the fifth place Flock in the Turner Conference standings. The top eight teams in the conference qualify for the postseason.

With today's victory, the Mallards improved to 31-26-1 this season and lifted their point total to 63 after 58 games. Eight regular season games remain for Quad City.

The Mallards will open their best-of-five first round playoff series on a date to be determined in the week following their March 26 regular season finale against an opponent to be determined.

The Mallards return to action at home Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against Evansville. All fans attending Friday evening's game will receive free Mallards posters courtesy of Fox 18, Q106.5 and The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus.
