Gems Rematch Mallards in Quad City on Saturday Night

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Gems continue their three game weekend with the series conclusion with the Quad City Mallards inside the iWireless Center in Moline, Illinois Saturday night. The Gems finish the weekend by traveling back to Dayton to host the Evansville IceMen on Cassano's Italian Ice at Hara Arena on Sunday afternoon at 4pm.

After falling behind early, the Gems would battle back to tie the game before Quad City again extended their lead to put Friday night's game out of reach in the later half of regulation to secure a 6-3 victory against the Gems in front of a season high 5,874 fans in Moline. Both teams hit the ice for the rematch tonight at 8pm eastern time.

Gameday In Quad City

The Gems (12-15-7) are 2-3-2 this season against the Mallards and are 1-2-0 inside the iWireless Center. Three different Gems would score on Friday night, including recently acquired forward David Nimmo who scored the game's lone powerplay goal in his first appearance in a Dayton sweater. Team captain Greg Labenski earned his second goal of the season from a snipe from the point, and All Star Brett Lutes notched his tenth of the year in the effort.

The Mallards (20-12-1) picked up their 20th win of the season Friday night against the Gems but were held scoreless on the powerplay, going 0-5 with the man advantage despite boasting the league's 3rd best powerplay. Quad City's Brandon Marino continued his now 12 game point streak in the win.

Gems Game Notes

All Star Lutes - Dayton forward Brett Lutes represented the Gem City well on Wednesday night as the lone Gems player participating in the 2012 All Star Game. Lutes would earn two assists and a +5 rating.

New Guys! - The Gems welcome fresh blood to the roster with the addition of forwards Robin Richards and David Nimmo. Nimmo would score in his first game with the Gems on Friday night against the Mallards.

Scorin' Surma - Dayton's Damian Surma continues to the lead the Gems in goals scored with 18, and is tied for second in the CHL for goals, just three behind league leader Brandon Marino of the Quad City Mallards.

Powerplay Master - Brandon Naurato remains second best in the CHL in powerplay goals with 8.

Komet Klobberer -Gems netminder Larry Sterling made a season high 45 saves between the pipes to propel his club to the victory over the Komets last Friday night. His 42 saves on last Saturday night give him a combined 87 saves this weekend against the Komets.
