
Mavericks Shut out Blaze for Second Time

BLOOMINGTON - The Bloomington Blaze, presented by Mid-Illini Credit Union, were shut out for the second time by the Missouri Mavericks, 3-0 on Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
The Mavericks broke open the scoring with the only first-period goal. �With 12:57 left in the opening period, Patrick Schafer found a short rebound in the crease and tapped the puck past a prone Brian Mahoney-Wilson in the Blaze net. �John-Scott Dickson scored a dagger with only 3.7 seconds left in the second period to send the Mavericks to the second intermission moments later with a 2-0 lead. �
Missouri extended the advantage to 3-0 when Sebastien Thinel found the five-hole from the right wing with 13:53 remaining in regulation. �
Mavericks goalie Charlie Effinger recorded the shutout again over the Blaze with 36 saves. �Effinger also recorded a 3-0 win in the only other matchup on December 30 in Bloomington. �Brian Mahoney-Wilson took the loss with 35 saves. �Each team was 0-for-4 on the power play. �The Blaze fall to 12-21-2 while the Mavericks improve to 18-13-3. �The teams will play a home-and-home series next weekend, with a Friday game in Bloomington and a Saturday contest in Independence.
