GD4, Lancaster Earn Weekly Nod

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The latest fixture in Louisville City FC (6-1-2, 20 points) current seven-match unbeaten run featured a pair of goals by two different scorers. USL announced both midfielder George Davis IV and forward Cameron Lancaster - the two scorers in LouCity's 2-0 victory over Saint Louis FC - as members of Week 8's USL Team of the Week.

Davis, a first-year LouCity player but three-time USL All-League selection, deposited his first goal of 2016 in the 75th minute after a picturesque passing display from Kadeem Dacres to Paolo DelPiccolo to Davis. His lofted shot sailed inside Saint Louis' far post to stand as the eventual game-winner.

"Any time your name shows up in the Team of the Week, it means a lot; it's huge," Davis said. "But the job now is to continue to get better, to work harder and to stay humble. An individual can't shine without the team he's working within, so massive amount of credit has to go to every guy in our locker room."

The University of Kentucky alumnus was named to the Team of the Week as a midfielder. It's his first selection in 2016.

Lancaster, an 83rd minute substitute at the point of LouCity's attack, earned his second nod to the Bench of the Team of the Week this season. For the second time, the Englishman entered late into a tight match to score a pivotal goal.

"It's obviously an honor to be recognized for doing your job," Lancaster said. "Credit to the boys for putting me in a position to make a difference, and I'm happy to have scored."

Against Saint Louis, the 23-year-old Tottenham Hotspur product was released into a 1-on-1 situation with just the goalkeeper ahead of him in the 89th minute. With a sublime touch away from the on-rushing keeper inside the 18-yard box, Lancaster drew a penalty before coolly crushing the right-footed conversion.

It was Lancaster's second goal of the campaign, having scored a stunning free-kick winner as a substitute in the season opener at Charlotte. For that effort, Lancaster earned Team of the Week honors in Week 1.

All in all, Louisville City has seen nine players named to the Team of the Week through Week 8, with goalkeeper Scott Goodwin (Week 1) and forward Chandler Hoffman (Week 4) earning Player of the Week accolades.

GK - Mauricio Vargas, Pittsburgh Riverhounds: Vargas kept his side in the game against Cincinnati, recording eight saves, including several spectacular ones at Nippert Stadium.

D - Sam McBride, San Antonio FC: McBride put in a consistent performance throughout as San Antonio earned a point on the road against OKC Energy FC on Sunday night.

D - Nick Hagglund, Toronto FC II: Hagglund marshalled TFC II's back line well as the host took a big 1-0 win against the Richmond Kickers last Wednesday.

D - Michael Gallagher, Portland Timbers 2: Gallagher put in a strong defensive shift on the road against Colorado Springs, and almost found a late equalizer for T2 in the USL Game of the Week on ESPN3.

M - George Davis IV, Louisville City FC: Davis scored his first goal for Louisville, and was a threat offensively all game as City took a 2-0 win against Saint Louis FC.

M - Maikel Chang, Charleston Battery: Chang had a goal and assist as the Battery defeated Toronto 2-0 on Saturday to add to his assist in Charleston's win against Harrisburg on Monday.

M - Alphonso Davies, Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2: Davies became the youngest player to score in the USL's history at 15 years of age as WFC2 took a 4-3 win against the LA Galaxy II.

M - Jimmy McLaughlin, FC Cincinnati: McLaughlin had a standout performance in front of a record crowd at Nippert Stadium, and scored the lone goal in Cincinnati's win against Pittsburgh.

M - Tommy Thompson, Sacramento Republic FC: The San Jose Earthquakes loanee scored both goals as Sacramento earned a 2-0 victory against Seattle at a sold-out Bonney Field.

F - Kyle Greig, Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2: Greig continued his hot streak with two goals on Sunday as WFC2 took a 4-3 win against the LA Galaxy II to remain undefeated.

F - Tyler Pasher, Swope Park Rangers: Pasher scored both goals, including a late winner, as the Rangers took a 2-1 victory against Tulsa Roughnecks FC.

Next up for LouCity is the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup second-round match on Wednesday against Detroit City FC at Bellarmine University (7 p.m.).
