San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio FC forward Manolo Sanchez has been named to the 21-man Puerto Rico squad to face the USA in an international friendly on May 22 in Puerto Rico, the Puerto Rican Football Federation announced today.
"It's great for Manolo to get called up to represent his country especially in a game against the United States," said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. "We are all pleased for him and wish him the best of luck in the next couple of weeks with his national team."
Along with the friendly against the US men's National Team, Sanchez will also be with Puerto Rico for their upcoming Caribbean Cup matches against Grenada on June 1 and Antigua on June 4. The Caribbean Cup serves as a qualifier for the upcoming 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
"It's a great honor to represent your country," said Sanchez. "It's always something very special. You're playing for something greater than yourself, and I am really excited and really looking forward to it."
Sanchez joined the club this year after spending the 2015 season with the New York Red Bulls (MLS) and New York Red Bulls II (USL). Born in Philadelphia, Sanchez was drafted 79th overall by the Red Bulls in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. He attended and played soccer at both University of Louisville and Clemson University.
Sanchez has appeared in eight matches this season, tallying 268 minutes, scoring one goal and recording six shots and three shots on goal so far this season.
San Antonio FC will host Corinthians FC on Wednesday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Toyota Field in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S Open Cup. SAFC will then host the OKC Energy FC on Saturday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to both matches can be purchased at SanAntonioFC.com or by calling 210-444-5MLS.
