Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release
The United Soccer League's season is now in full swing, and the Wilmington Hammerheads are powering their way through what has been an obstacle course of a schedule so far.
Standing a 2-3-2, the Hammerheads currently occupy the ninth position in the USL's Eastern Conference after a short road trip to Cincinnati and Richmond.
Taking a tie and a 1-0 loss in those two games, respectively, Wilmington will look to rebound and gain some ground in the standings when it hosts an in-state opponent, the Charlotte Independence (5-2-0), on Tuesday night. It will be the first of three meetings between the two clubs in 2016.
Sunday will be a real treat for Hammerheads fans, as the Charleston Battery (3-2-3) make their return trip to Legion Stadium for the first time this year.
In an earlier match on April 9, Wilmington traveled to Charleston and fell in a 2-1 decision. The Hammerheads will look for vengeance against their rivals on Sunday.
Wilmington will play two of its final three games this month at Legion Stadium before taking a trip out of country on May 29 to visit Toronto FC. They will be back in-state, however, when Harrisburg comes to town.
Sitting in that ninth position and nine points back of conference-leading Louisville City FC, which has shot out of the gate with 17 points backed by a 5-1-2 record.
Wilmington will not square-off with Louisville until June 11, when the Hammerheads will make a trip there.
Kickoff for Tuesday's match vs. Charlotte is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Legion Stadium. The Hammerheads are scheduled to start at the same time on Sunday when they host Charleston.
