Gauthier Secures Weekend Sweep

PRINCE GEORGE, BC- The Prince George Cougars brought out the brooms on Saturday night, as they swept their weekend double-header against the Rockets, winning a 4-0 win at the CN Centre.

Taylor Gauthier made 20-saves for his third shutout of the season and his second this week. The line of Ethan Browne, Josh Maser and Vladislav Mikhalchuk continued to roll, as the trio combined for seven points. Mikhalchuk scored a pair of goals, Maser scored his team-leading 16th goal and Browne added three assists. Josh Curtis also scored, as he picked up his first goal since November 23rd. Cole Beamin recorded his first career WHL point in the win, assisting on Maser's first period goal.

Maser opened the scoring, firing it from the slot and off the post and in, eight-minutes into the game. Curtis doubled the lead 68-seconds into the middle frame, as he was credited with his seventh goal, after the Rockets put the puck into their own net. Mikhalchuk scored twice in the third period, early and late, as he bagged his 14th and 15th goals of the season. His second coming on the power-play.

The Cougars outscored the Rockets 11-2 in their two-game sweep, as they won 7-2 on Friday. With the win, the Cougars leap-frog the Kamloops Blazers for fourth in the B.C. Division. They now hold down the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. They also improve their record to 6-1-1-0 against the Rockets.
