
Gators snubbed by Royals 6-3

Lafayette LA. The first meeting in the history of the Louisiana IceGators and Reading Royals was decided by 3 second period goals as the Royals extended their road unbeaten streak to 10 games with a 6-3 victory in the Cajundome.
Reading jumped out to 1-0 lead after the first period on a power play goal by Eric Fortier at the 17:58 mark. Judd Medak took a shot from the right circle toward a screened Nathan Marsters, Fortier in front was able to redirect the buck just inside the far post for his 3rd of the season. Adam Borzecki also receiving an assist on the only tally of the first 20 minutes.
The Royals blew the game open with a 3 goal outburst in the 2nd period. Mark Rooneem of the Gators tied the game at 3:14 of the period, redirecting a Max Fortunus shot through the pads of Matt Yeats to tie the score at 1-1. Jon Francisco scored from the slot at 8:37, his 7th, to break the tie. Then at 11:08 it was Ryan Kinasewich at the far post to make the score 3-1 on his 9th marker of the season. At 14:25 Mikko Viitanen's slap shot from the blue line was deflected to the top shelf for his 1st of the season and a 4-1 Royals lead after two periods.
The two teams exchanged two 3rd period goals, Kinasewich (10), Jeff Miles (9) scoring for Readind, Max Fortunus (3) and Davis Bararuk (7) scored power play goals for Louisiana for a 6-3 final. With the loss, the IceGators fall to 13-11-3, 29 points and 4th place in the South Division. The Gators outshot Reading 36-26. Louisiana was 2-6 on the power play, Reading went 1-5 with the man advantage.
Coming Up-
Thursday, December 30 at Texas Wildcatters 7:05pm This will be the 6th meeting of the season between the Gators and their closest geographical rival. Louisiana is 4-1 vs. the Wildcatters this season and have allowed only one goal in the last 180 minutes of play between these two teams.
Friday, December 31 vs. Pensacola Ice Pilots at 7:05pm The IceGators will ring in the New Year with one more game in this fierce rivalry. After Sunday's loss, Louisiana is 2-3-1 vs. Pensacola this season. After the action on the ice, the IceGators will host their annual New Year's Eve party. The Fun Shop will be handing out 1,000 noise makers to ring in 2005.
