Gasper Homers in 10-2 Loss to Fisher Cats

Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs (4-4) drop the series opener 10-2 to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Tuesday night.

Mickey Gasper launched his first homer with the Red Sox organization in the bottom of the sixth. Marcelo Mayer extended an eight-game hitting streak with a double in the fourth inning.

New Hampshire scored six runs in the top of the first to take an early lead after Alex De Jesus singled on a line drive to right field to score two. Rainer Nunez hit a double to center field to drive in three and the Fisher Cats led, 5-0. A throwing error issued to Kyle Teel would allow another run to score from third.

In the top of the third, Devonte Brown hit an inside-the-park home run to make it 7-0 New Hampshire.

Zach Britton singled to right in the top of the fourth to score Josh Kasevich before a two-run double from De Jesus would extend the 10-0 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, Gasper crushed his first homer of the season and first for Sea Dogs batter at Hadlock Field. The solo shot to center put Portland on the board.

Blaze Jordan sparked momentum in the bottom of the ninth with an RBI double (1) to score Teel but New Hampshire took game one, 10-2.

RHP Alejandro Melean (2-0, 1.00 ERA) earned the win after pitching 4.0 scoreless innings allowing one hit while striking out five. He did not issue a walk. The loss was issued to RHP Wikelman Gonzalez (0-1, 23.63 ERA) after pitching 0.2 innings allowing six runs, four of which were earned, on three hits while walking three and striking out one.

The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field tomorrow, April 17th, 2024 for game two against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. The first pitch is slated for 6:00 pm. RHP Isaac Coffey (0-1, 5.79 ERA) will get the ball for Portland while New Hampshire will start LHP Trenton Wallace (0-0, 3.86 ERA).
