Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (4-5) tied a franchise record with 18 strikeouts on the mound, led by 10 punch outs from Blade Tidwell, in Tuesday night's 3-2 win over the Reading Fightin Phils at Mirabito Stadium. Binghamton last struck out 18 batters as a team on April 10, 1995, against New Haven.

New York Mets right-hander Max Kranick made a rehab start for Binghamton and struck out six batters over 2.2 hitless innings with one walk. Trey McLoughlin then came in to finish the third inning and recorded a strikeout.

Tidwell (1-1), who made the first relief appearance of his professional career, spun five innings of two-run ball out of the bullpen, and struck out 10 batters. The 22-year-old struck out the side in his first inning of work in the fourth inning. Tidwell came up one strikeout shy of tying his career high in a single game.

Wilkin Ramos came in for the save in the ninth inning and struck out one batter in a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Ramos earned his third save of the season.

Binghamton got the scoring started in the second inning with three-straight hits. JT Schwartz led off the inning with a single, Jeremiah Jackson followed with a single, and Matt Rudick drove them both in with a two-run double to make it 2-0.

Reading (3-7) scored in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly from Marcus Lee Sang that cut the Ponies' lead to 2-1. Binghamton responded in the sixth on an RBI single from Rhylan Thomas that made it 3-1.

The Fightin Phils cut it back to a one-run game with a sacrifice fly from Carlos De La Cruz in the eighth inning that made Binghamton's lead 3-2. Ramos slammed the door in the ninth with a perfect frame.

The Rumble Ponies will continue their six-game series with the Reading Fightin Phils (Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies) on Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 6:05 PM and pregame coverage gets underway at 5:50 PM on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.
