Gary Powers Way to Series-Opening Victory

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones (33-42) dropped the first game of a five-game set against the Gary SouthShore RailCats (45-30) tonight, 7-5, in front of 5,938 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
Kansas City took an early 1-0 lead against Derell McCall (4-0) in the first when Damian Rolls walked, moved to second on a Greg Jacobs walk and scored on an RBI single by Craig Hurba.
After four shutout innings, Dustin Bolton (4-5) surrendered a single to Rob Marconi to start the fifth. Marconi went to third on a double to right field by Mike Massaro and scored when Jacobs misplayed the ball, tying the game at one. An infield single put Cristian Guerrero on first to begin the sixth frame, and a double by Mike Rohde pushed Guerrero to third. A home run by Jordan Czarniecki plated all three, giving Gary a 4-1 advantage.
A two-out solo home run in the bottom of the sixth by Neb Brown brought Kansas City within two, but the RailCats answered with two runs in the seventh. Guerrero reached on a fielder's choice in the frame before a two-run shot by Rohde extended Gary's lead to 6-2. Bolton left the game in favor of Justin James with one on and two-out in the seventh. James surrendered a double, but Anthony Esquer was thrown out at home on the play to end the inning.
Bolton allowed six runs, five earned, on 13 hits in the loss. McCall left after six, earning the victory after allowing two runs on six hits.
Aharon Eggleston doubled with one out in the T-Bones half of the seventh and later scored on a throwing error by Eric McNamee, making the score 6-3. Marconi started the eighth inning with a solo home run off James, pushing the RailCats lead to 7-3. James retired the next two batters before giving way to Weston Curles, who struck out the only batter he faced.
A triple by Ryan Fox plated two runs in the eighth and capped the scoring on the night at 7-5.
Daniel Sattler threw a scoreless ninth to finish the game for Kansas City. Andy Shipman earned his 12th save of the season with a scoreless ninth, tying him for the league lead. Eggleston extended his on-base streak to 34 games with a one-for-five performance. Fox finished the night two-for-four with a triple and two RBI.
