FARGO, ND-After the Joliet JackHammers (26-48) chipped away at an early 5-1 deficit with three runs in the 6th and 7th innings to make it 5-4, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (40-32) scored six runs in the 8th inning to earn an 11-4 win before 4,112 fans at Newman Outdoor Field in the opener of a three-game series on Friday night.

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks scored a single run in the 2nd inning against Joliet RHP Nate Sevier (1-2). RF Jeremiah Piepkorn (2-4) hit a two-out double and scored on an RBI single by C Alan Rick (2-5) for a 1-0 lead.

The RedHawks jumped out to a 4-0 score with three runs in the 3rd inning. LF Justin Justice (1-3) led off the inning with a single and stole second base. DH Mike Coles (1-3) walked and SS Zach Penprase (1-4) singled home Justice.

CF Nic Jackson followed with an RBI single to plate Coles and 3B Ruben Salazar (2-4) singled home Penprase for a 4-0 RedHawks lead.

The JackHammers scored their first run of the game in the 4th inning. CF Adam Klein (2-3) led off the inning with a base hit. He moved to second base on a wild pitch and scampered to third base on a groundout by 3B Vince Harrison (0-4).

LF Brad Correll (2-4) hit an RBI single to scorer Klein to trim the Fargo-Moorhead lead to 4-1.

The RedHawks added an unearned run in the 5th inning to take a 5-1 lead but the JackHammers fought back with two runs in the 6th inning. Klein and SS Kevin Rios (2-4) hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning.

RF Joe Gaetti (2-4) smashed a two-run double to score both Klein and Rios to get the JackHammers within two runs at 5-3.

Joliet scored a run in the 7th inning to get within one run at 5-4. C Chris Herbert (0-3) reached base on a two-out error. Klein worked a walk and Rios hit a single to score Herbert and make the score 5-4.

The RedHawks sent 9 men to the plate in the 8th inning. A Randall Simon (1-5) two-run home run was the highlight in an inning where the RedHawks scored six runs on five hits.

The JackHammers continue their series with the RedHawks on Saturday night. The JackHammers have yet to announce a starting pitcher while RHP Nick Fellman (4-5, 4.72) gets the start for the RedHawks. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. on AM 1340 WJOL and online at jackhammerbaseball.com.
