KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones (35-43) came back to tie the game after an early deficit but were unable to finish off the Gary SouthShore RailCats (46-32) as they fell, 10-9, in 10 innings tonight in front of 5,024 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
Chris Graves was signed by Kansas City prior to the game and made his first professional start in the contest. After a scoreless first, the left-hander walked four batters in the second, forcing in Gary's first run with a walk to Eric McNamee. Graves left after the free pass, allowing one run on one hit and six walks over one and two-thirds innings.
Solo home runs by Neb Brown and Damian Rolls in the second and third innings respectively gave Kansas City a 2-1 lead against Tony Cogan and the RailCats. Gary responded with a six-run fourth inning against reliever Weston Curles, highlighted by a three-run home run from Cristian Guerrero that capped off the frame, giving the RailCats a 7-2 advantage.
Mark Minicozzi plated two more runs with a single in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to three before Jordan Czarnecki connected for a solo home run in the fifth to push the score to 8-4. Curles pitched three and one-third innings and surrendered seven runs on six hits. He was relieved by Dustin Bolton who threw two shutout innings.
The T-Bones added a single tally in the fifth before using a three-run seventh to chase Cogan and tie the game at eight. Craig Hurba drove in the first run in the seventh with a ground-rule double before Jacob Blackwood finished Cogan's night.
Cogan surrendered eight runs on 11 hits over six and two-thirds innings. This was the third straight game in the series that neither starter factored into the decision.
Payton Tweddale threw a scoreless eighth for Kansas City before walking to Mike Rohde to begin the ninth. Cody McAllister (6-4) relieved the left-hander and surrendered an RBI single to Rob Marconi for a 9-8 Gary lead. Kansas City quickly answered against former teammate Andy Shipman, using two singles and an intentional walk to load the bases before a sacrifice fly by Jacob Blackwood forced an extra frame.
McAllister remained in for the tenth, surrendering a walk before getting two outs to bring Guerrero to the plate. The RailCats right-fielder doubled to left-center to cap the score at 10-9. Shipman surrendered a two-out single to Aharon Eggleston before inducing a flyout from Damian Rolls to end the game. Eggleston's single extended his on-base streak to 37 games
