Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Two big reasons why the Goldeyes continue to sit atop the Northern League standings were given their due today.

Picking up wins in both of his starts, Bill Pulsipher was named the NL Pitcher of the Week. Hitting just about everything thrown at him, Juan Diaz was named the NL Player of the Week for the second time this year.

Signed last Tuesday, Pulsipher got the start that night and tossed five shutout innings as the Goldeyes thumped Joliet 13-1. He made his second start with Winnipeg on Sunday and was equally effective, allowing just one run on five hits in seven innings as the Goldeyes dumped Schaumburg 7-2.

For the year, Pulsipher is 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA. He has fanned nine and walked just four in 12 innings while holding opponents to a .171 average.

In six games, Diaz batted .480 (12/25) with five home runs, one double and six singles. He drove in 13 runs and scored six others while posting .500 on-base and 1.120 slugging percentages for a colossal 1.620 OPS.

For the year, Diaz is hitting .320 (good for sixth in the league) with a league-best 24 home runs and 75 runs batted in, good for a share of the league lead. His .618 slugging percentage is also a league-best as is his 1.001 OPS.

This is the second time this year the Goldeyes have swept the weekly awards. Starting pitcher Bear Bay and outfielder Kevin West were given their due the week of May 25 to 31.

FISH FOOD - Reliever Derek Feldkamp was placed on the Inactive List today as he returned home to Michigan for personal reasons. His departure leaves the Goldeyes with 21 players on their roster, 10 of whom are pitchers.
