Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
GARY, Ind. - As the summer months fly by fast, thoughts of the fall begin creeping closer and closer. And fall means two very important things: post-season baseball and the start of football. A truly great time on the sports fans calendar. With this in mind, the Gary SouthShore RailCats have dedicated the final day of the regular season to their fans with an added football twist.
2009 saw the RailCats bring in their one millionth fan and break a franchise record for consecutive wins at home. So on Monday, August 31, the final day of the regular season, the RailCats celebrate Fan Appreciation Night at U. S. Steel Yard. The RailCats will honor the great fans that have made the 2009 season such a memorable one. All night, numerous great prizes will be given away for all the fans to enjoy.
As the post-season approaches, football season is right around the corner and the RailCats will double their fan appreciation night with Football Night at The Steel Yard, sponsored by U. S. Steel Gary Works. Former Chicago Bears greats Otis Wilson and Bobby Douglass will be in attendance, signing autographs and interacting with fans. Wilson, a first round pick of the Bears in 1980, played eight years in the NFL. Wilson was part one of the most dominate defenses in football history, playing as a linebacker on the Super Bowl XX championship team. Wilson finished his career with 36 sacks and 10 interceptions. Douglass played seven of his 10 NFL seasons with the Bears. A second round pick in 1969, Douglass was the premiere running quarterback of his time. He ran for 968 yards, compiling a then-record 8 rushing touchdowns in 1972. That record would stand for 34 years.
With football legends in the house, it is only appropriate that fans who wear their football jerseys to the park get $2 off their ticket at the gates. The RailCats will also feature a mini-football giveaway to the first 1,000 fans through the gates, courtesy of Salvi, Schostok, & Pritchard, P.C. And the savings continue as the RailCats will feature another Dollar Monday, presented by NIEMI Associates. Buy a regular priced ticket and get a second ticket for just $1 and enjoy dollar hot dogs, soda, popcorn, programs and other great deals around the park. And the regular season ends with a bang as fans will be treated to an awe-inspiring post-game fireworks show, presented by First Midwest Bank and The Post-Tribune.
Gates open at 6 p.m. with a 7 o'clock first pitch on Fan Appreciation Night. The RailCats and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks close out a season-ending seven-game homestand at U. S. Steel Yard. Tickets are available for all seven games and can be purchased by visiting the U. S. Steel Yard box office, dialing 219.882.2255, or by logging on to www.railcatsbaseball.com.
