JOLIET - The Joliet Jackhammers today continued giving back to the community that has supported them, donating 500 vouchers, each good for two tickets to one of four games, to Will County employees.
And there are more where that came from, said Jamie Toole, Vice President of Business Development. He told Chief of Staff Matt Ryan during a Monday morning press conference he hopes Ryan will be calling to ask for more vouchers for this weekend's home stand.
The vouchers are good for Friday through Monday, Aug. 17. Friday and Saturday games against Fargo-Moorhead and the Aug. 17 game against Gary will begin at 7:05 p.m. at Silver Cross Field. Sunday's game, also against Fargo-Moorhead, is scheduled for 2:05 p.m.
Will County Executive Larry Walsh, who accepted the vouchers on behalf of the county's approximately 2,400 employees, was sure the gift would be a home run.
"Whether the Jackhammers win or lose, you'll have fun," he said, adding a night at the ballpark is inexpensive family fun. "I know my grandkids have been here and they're always talking about it the next day."
Kelly Sufka, the Jackhammers' general manager, said it isn't the first time the team has given away seats. They gave 2,000 vouchers to area non-profit agencies for the All-Star Break. They've also made the City of Joliet the same offer it made the County, but hadn't heard back as of Monday morning.
Toole and Sufka recommend that vouchers be redeemed at the box office, which is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, ahead of time so those anxious to see the game beginning with the very first pitch won't have to stand in line and chance missing any of the action.
Walsh pledged that he'll line up County elected officials or other employees to throw out that first pitch at each of the four games.
"We've been here supporting Silver Cross Field from the beginning," said Walsh. "We always have a County night at the ballpark, and we're very happy to have this opportunity for our employees."
