Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING - Ramon Garcia's complete game shutout lead the West Michigan Whitecaps to a 2-0 win over the Lansing Lugnuts before 4,238 fans at Oldsmobile Park Thursday night. It is the third straight defeat for the Lugnuts and it is also the second time that they have been shutout in a game this season.

Garcia (4-3) was brilliant throughout the night, as he scattered three hits and faced only three batters over the minimum. He also only allowed two runners to reach second base during the entire contest. Garcia struck out five batters in the game and recorded 13 flyouts.

The Whitecaps scored the only two runs of the game in the third inning. Kody Kaiser started the frame by reaching on a Justin Jackson error. Audy Ciriaco and Kyle Peter each singled to load the bases for West Michigan. Justin Henry's two-out single into center field scored both Kaiser and Ciriaco to put the Whitecaps up 2-0.

Nate Starner (1-4) took the loss for the Lugnuts although he did deliver a quality start. He surrendered both of the Whitecaps runs, but neither was earned to the Lansing southpaw. He also allowed eight hits and fanned five in his six innings of work.

Lansing (16-16) and West Michigan (18-13) will continue the series on Friday night at Oldsmobile Park. Lefty Brad Mills (1-2, 4.60) will try to snap the Lugnuts losing skid, while righty Alfredo Figaro (3-0, 0.60) will take the mound for the Whitecaps. LAFCU Fireworks follow the game as well, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
