
Johnson placed on DL; Castilo assigned from Extended Spring Training

May 8, 2008 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce today that OF Tyler Johnson has been placed on the DL with a knee strain, retroactive to May 7, and that OF Angel Castillo has been assigned to Cedar Rapids from Extended Spring Training in Tempe, AZ.
Johnson has played in 24 games so far this season with a.216 BA, 2 HR and 11 RBI. He also has three doubles and two triples.
Castillo, 18, is a native of Santa Lucia, Miranda, Venezuela and was signed by the Angels as a non-drafted free agent on August 17, 2005. He spent the last two season with Tempe of the Arizona League with a career .254 BA, 6 HR and 38 RBI in 67 minor league games, with 11 doubles, three triples and ten stolen bases in 13 attempts.
Castillo will join the Kernels in Appleton WI and will be in uniform and available for tonight's 6:35 pm game with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
With today's transactions, the Kernels roster stands at 25 active players with three players currently on the disabled list.
The Kernels return home to Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday, May 16th to open an 11 game home stand with games against Clinton and Wisconsin.
