February 24, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Adirondack Thunder News Release

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: Tonight is the eleventh meeting of the season between the Thunder and the Monarchs with each team coming out on top five times. Despite five wins for Manchester, Adirondack has earned a point in eight of ten meetings and hold a 5-2-2-1 record against the Monarchs. The Monarchs have had the best of the Thunder as of late after they swept a three-in-three series in late January.

BEASTS OF THE EAST: Tonight's matchup features the top two teams in the East Division, with the Monarchs six points clear of Adirondack, but the Thunder hold two games in hand. Manchester is also currently the top team in the Eastern Conference, as their 71 points sit them atop the Florida Panthers by a point.

JUST DREW IT: After Thunder netminder Drew Fielding made his return to the lineup in a big way with a 43-save effort in Friday's shootout defeat in Elmira, he topped it with a 49-save win last evening as the Thunder won 3-1. Fielding's 49 saves were an ECHL career high and the Ontario native has turned aside 92 of 94 shots he's faced since he returned to the team last Thursday. Fielding has also been proficient against Manchester this season, with a 2-0-0 record, a 0.50 goals against average and a .983 save percentage.

ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALLIN: Forward Terrence Wallin scored his first points of the season over the weekend, including a multi-point effort in Sunday's win in Brampton, as the big winger amassed a goal and an assist. Wallin redirected home a Michael Kirkpatrick goal to open the scoring in the first period and he assisted on Kirkpatrick's empty net goal to ice the game late in the third. Wallin had picked up his first career ECHL point, an assist, in Saturday's win over Elmira.

TWO HEADS ARE BETTER THAN ONE: Winger Louick Marcotte collected two goals for the second straight game in Sunday's win over Brampton, following up on his two-goal outing against Elmira on Saturday. Marcotte redirected home the eventual game winner midway through the second period and added an empty net tally late in the third period. The Quebec native now has 12 goals on the season, good for second on the team.

FOR PETE'S SAKE: Winger Peter MacArthur has collected five points (2-3-5) over the Thunder's past two games, including three points (1-2-3) in Sunday's win over Brampton. MacArthur was proficient on the power play with a trio of points, including an assist on Marcotte's game winning goal on Sunday. The Clifton Park native has collected 17 points (5-12-17) in 29 games with the Thunder this season.

SHORTHANDED SUCCESS: Adirondack's penalty kill unit has been on fire in the second half of their season and the Thunder have moved into the ECHL's top ten in penalty killing percentage at 86.1%, good for sixth in the league. Bolstered by a stretch of 19 perfect penalty killing efforts from their last 23 games, including a 3-for-3 effort in Brampton, the Thunder have vaulted 13 spots in the league standings from 19th, where they sat in early January. The Thunder are also third in the league with an 87.3% penalty kill percentage on the road.
