Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Three consecutive goals in the second period propelled the Manchester Monarchs past the Adirondack Thunder, 3-2, Wednesday night from the Verizon Wireless Arena
With the win, the Monarchs (34-15-1-4) have now beaten the Thunder (30-17-2-3) in four consecutive games and push their East Division lead to eight points.
"Taking two points from a divisional opponent is huge at this point in the season," Head Coach, Rich Seeley said. "(Adirondack) played hard tonight and it was important for us to match their intensity after the first period. We're in a good place in the standings right now, but we'll need to earn our keep every night to remain where we want to be."
Adirondack struck first on Terrence Wallin's 2nd goal of the year at 7:45 of the opening period. The forward was able to tip the puck past Monarchs goaltender, Colin Stevens, off an initial shot by Michael Kirkpatrick, giving the Thunder the 1-0 lead early in the game.
Matt Fornataro scored the equalizer at 4:59 in the second period, notching his 4th goal of the season. Fornataro received a pass from Alex Lintuniemi near the right boards and was able to chip a backhander over the stick-side shoulder of Thunder goaltender, Drew Fielding, while skating towards the slot to tie the game.
Maxim Kitsyn picked up his 23rd goal of the year at 12:23 in the second period, pushing the Monarchs advantage to 2-1. Kitsyn took a pass from Matt MacKenzie in the low slot, and beat Fielding low glove to give the Monarchs their first lead of the night.
Alex Roach scored the eventual game-winning-goal at15:42 in the second period, netting his 5th goal of the year. After a scrum in the slot, Roach found the loose puck and ripped a slap shot high glove on Fielding, putting the Monarchs ahead, 3-1.
Manchester would give a goal back at 8:09 in the third period when Peter MacArthur scored his 13th goal of the season. Marcotte skated in on Stevens on a partial breakaway, and beat the goaltender five-hole to bring the game to 3-2.
Adirondack would pull Fielding in the last minute, but Manchester would not concede the tying goal.
The Monarchs return to the ice Friday, Feb. 26 (7:30 p.m.), when they visit Scope Arena to face the Norfolk Admirals.
