Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (20-16-7) saw four different players score and goalie John McLean earned a 25 save shutout to beat the Evansville Thunderbolts (11-29-5) by a score 4-0 inside the Pensacola Bay Center in front of 8,049 fans on Saturday Night.
The Ice Flyers opened the scoring 5:04 into the first period when Jesse Stoughton carried the puck back up the left wing boards, circled into the top of the slot, and fired a rocket past Evansville goalie Tanner Milliron. Louis Belisle and Josh Harris assisted on the even strength tally.
After a scoreless second period, the Ice Flyers pushed their lead to 2-0 when Aaron Clarke came out of the penalty box and flew in on a breakaway. Clarke fired the initial shot and the rebound was collected by Stoughton, but Stoughton's attempt was also stopped by Milliron but Belisle was there to put the second rebound just 2:28 into the third. A little over 10 minutes later, Josh Cousineau skated through the left wing circle and fired the puck top shelf, far corner to make it 3-0. Roger Tagoona and Nathan Bruyere had the helpers on the goal scored with 7:16 left in the third. With Evansville's Cory Melkert in the box for hooking, Clarke scored a power play goal when he pushed in the puck after it trickled through when Milliron thought he had made the save. The power play goal was scored with 5:26 left in regulation and was assisted by Belisle and Harris.
McLean stopped all 25 of Evansville's shots on goal to pick up his first shutout of the season, second win of the weekend, and move his record to 7-5-0.
The Ice Flyers close out the weekend tomorrow when they head to Macon, Ga., to take on the Macon Mayhem at 3:05 p.m. Central Time inside the Macon Coliseum.
