Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

PENSACOLA, Fla. (Oct. 22, 2016) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers (0-1-1) got the early lead for the second night in a row but fell as the Fayetteville FireAntz (2-0-0) swept the weekend with a 2-1 shootout victory.

Like last night, the Ice Flyers scored first but unlike last night, the FireAntz had no answer. Austin McKay scored his first professional goal a mere 16 seconds into the game. Josh Cousineau and Andrew Schmit assisted on the even strength tally.

Fayetteville tied the game up in the second period when Joe Harcharik scored a power play on a rebound of an Alex Brooks shot while Matt Zenzola was sprawled to the right of the crease. Following regulation and the five-minute overtime period, the game headed to a shootout. In the shootout, Stephon Thorne, Harcharik, and Tayler Thompson all connected while Fayetteville goalie Sean Bonar stoned Pensacola on all three of their attempts.

Matt Zenzola stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced in regulation and overtime. His record now stands at 0-1-1 on the season.

The Ice Flyers will hit the road for the first time during the 2016-17 season when they travel to Columbus, Ga., to take on the Columbus Cottonmouths inside the Columbus Civic Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Central Time. Fans can watch the game online at SPHLLive.com.
