
Mayhem Fall to Cottonmouths in Season Opener

MACON, GA- The Macon Mayhem were defeated by the Columbus Cottonmouths by a score of 4-3 in overtime in tonight's game. Columbus jumped out to an early lead, but Macon was able to make this one an outstanding game.
The Columbus Cottonmouths jumped out to an early lead in this game. With 16:26 left to play in the first, Keegan Bruce scored on a one-timer off a pass from Riley Spraggs to make it 1-0 Columbus. About three minutes later, Andy Bathgate scored on a shot that went over the right pad of Garrett Bartus to increase the score to 2-0. Bathgate then scored his second goal of the game with 0.5 seconds left to go in the first period to increase the lease to 3-0 Columbus.
Macon came out much better in the second period, as Jake Trask scored at the 17:36 mark of the second period. Newcomer Dennis Sicard then put the puck in the net four minutes later on a battle in front of the net. The puck was loose and Sicard was able to jam it in with the help of Daniel Gentzler and John Siemer. Trask then struck again on a great move in front of the net to tie the game up at three. Collin MacDonald delivered him a great pass, and Trask was able to get the puck past Brandon Jaeger.
There was no scoring in the third period, and the game went into overtime. Columbus' Jonathan Turk followed up a break and was able to put the rebound past Garrett Bartus for the game winner in three-on-three overtime.
Jake Trask scored two goals for the Mayhem, and Andy Bathgate scored two for the Cottonmouths. Columbus goaltender Brand Jaeger made 26 saves on 29 shots, while Macon goalie Garrett Bartus made 31 saves on 35 shots.
The Mayhem's next game will be on October 22nd against the Cottonmouths in Columbus. They will return home to face the Peoria Rivermen on October 28th and 29th.
