Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
PENSACOLA, FL. (November 15, 2013) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers made their second trip into the Mississippi Coast Coliseum this season and came out with the same result as list time: a win. Four different goal scorers guided the team to a 4-2 win over the Mississippi Surge.
The first period was full of clogged lanes and deflected shots as neither team really established much of their game plan. The shots finished at eight a piece with only one shot finding twine when Mississippi's Mitch Bruijsten netted a power play goal to give the Surge a 1-0 lead 7:52 into the period.
Donnie Harris had his fourth straight game with a goal when he tied the game at one while the Ice Flyers were on a 5-on-3. Harris took a pass from Harry Radovich and ripped a shot from just above the right faceoff circle that beat Mississippi's Dan Clarke. The Surge again took the lead when Brian Elser pushed in a loose puck as Peter Di Salvo was down on the ice to the left of the crease. Di Salvo argued he was interfered with but the goal stood. The Ice Flyers tied it again when Joe Caveney took a shot while falling face first to the ice. He lifted it over Clarke's right leg to make the score 2-2 with 3:54 left in the second. Shaun Arvai got the only assist on the goal.
The 2-2 tie was almost broken when Di Salvo's clearing attempt was intercepted by Mississippi's Kyle Fletcher. Fortunately for the Ice Flyers, Fletcher's shot was blocked and deflected into the far corner as Di Salvo got back in the crease. The Ice Flyers broke the tie with just 3:47 remaining in the game when Mike MacIntyre beat Clarke with assists going to Podge Turnbull and Mitchell Good. About two minutes later, the Ice Flyers made it 4-2 with a power play goal by Ryan Salvis. Drew Baker and Matt Smyth had the helpers on Salvis' goal.
The Ice Flyers next game will be Sunday when they host the Mississippi Surge in a 3:05 p.m. start in the Hangar.
