Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The Mississippi RiverKings (5-2-0) and Columbus Cottonmouths (3-3-1) needed extra time to settle their first meeting of the season, as Matt Harrington tallied the game winner just 1:15 into overtime as the RiverKings edged the Snakes 3-2.

The game started with fireworks as Charles Lachance and Will Aide dropped the gloves at center ice with the first of three fights in the night. Columbus found the back of the net at the 7:24 mark of the period. Dan Bremner pushed the puck past Matt Krahn to put the Snakes up 1-0. Five minutes later, the RiverKings answered with Leo Thomas' sixth goal of the season to tie the game at one heading into the first intermission.

After a scoreless second period, the RiverKings wasted little time striking in the third. Devin Mantha beat Andrew Loewen just 11 into the final frame to put the home team ahead.

But the Cottonmouths did not settle. In the waning moments of regulation, Bremner found buried a rebound past Krahn for his second goal of the night to tie the game at two and send the game to overtime.

In overtime, the teams traded chances early, but the RiverKings took a two-on-one on Loewen while Matt Harrington buried a shot past Loewen to give the RiverKings the 3-2 win.

Matt Krahn (3-0-0) stopped 31 of 33 shots against in the victory. Andrew Loewen (1-2-1) stopped 31 of 34 shots against in the loss.

The RiverKings return home tomorrow night to take on the Huntsville Havoc at 7:05 p.m. Be one of the first 1,000 through the doors to receive a coupon courtesy of SportClips.
