Saginaw Spirit News Release
Saginaw, MI - On Monday evening, the Saginaw Spirit host the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds at The Dow Event Center for the third game in the first round of playoffs. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The Hounds currently lead the Spirit 2-0 in the best-of-seven series after two games in the Soo this past weekend.
The Greyhounds established early control and momentum when Morgan Frost scored two sequential goals with a goal from Jack Kopacka not long after, creating a 3-0 Greyhounds lead early on. Boris Katchouk propelled the Soo's lead to four goals before the first period came to a close.
In the middle frame, Katchouk scored his 2nd goal of the game and the Hounds led 5-0 entering the final period. The Greyhounds continued to pour it on with three more goals to ensure an 8-0 victory and a two-game lead in round one of the OHL Playoffs.
Spirit goaltender Evan Cormier still managed to make 36 saves in goal, even after relenting eight times.
Previous to their meeting on Sunday, Saginaw held their own on Friday night in Game 1, before falling 5-2. The Spirit's energy and pace shined in the first 40 minutes of play, but they were unable to keep up the momentum during the third period.
