Matchup:

After surrendering three goals in the opening period and trailing 4-0 late in the second frame, the Solar Bears found their offensive stride. LW Nick Petersen pounded home a rebound on a power play late in the second to score the first ECHL goal in Solar Bears history and give Orlando life heading into the third period. C Ryan Cruthers sniped a shorthanded goal with 4:26 to play in regulation and F Scott Tanski left the penalty box 1:21 later and cut the Florida lead to 4-3. A late power play set the stage for a game-tying goal, and C Mathew Sisca delivered with 31 seconds left on the clock to force overtime. The two sides needed just 26 seconds of extra time, as F David Rutherford put home his second of the night for Florida, boosting them to a 5-4 overtime victory.

Solar Bears Notes:

The puck and stick from the first Solar Bears goal will be sent to the Hockey Hall of Fame... Orlando scored four answered goals after trailing 4-0 late in the second period, and over the final two periods and overtime the Solar Bears out-shot Florida by a 33-18 margin... Special teams played a major factor for Orlando last night, as the Solar Bears scored on two of their four power play chances and also added a shorthanded goal.

Everblades Notes:

Florida saw big performances from some of their key contributors of last season's Kelly Cup winning team. Their leading scorer from the 2011-12 season, C Matt Beca, had four points (1g, 3a) last night, while their leading goal scorer, F David Rutherford, scored two times, including the game winner in OT... Florida celebrated last season's success with a banner raising ceremony prior to the start of the contest... G John Muse had a stellar performance for the Everblades in the game, stopping 43 shots while being named the game's third star.
