In the third frame, Jayson Megna scored just 55 seconds into the period to tie the game for Hershey. With just 3:41 remaining, Barber scored the go-ahead goal for the Bears, beating Tristan Jarry over the glove to make it 3-2 Hershey. Barber completed the hat-trick with an empty net goal with 3.3 seconds remaining. Vitek Vanecek earned the win in net with 30 saves. The IceHogs were last in action on Wednesday, and earned a 3-2 victory at Grand Rapids. Luke Johnson scored the winning goal with just one second remaining in overtime for the IceHogs.

ALL-TIME VERSUS ROCKFORD:

Hershey enters tonight looking for the franchise's first ever victory versus the IceHogs. Rockford bested the Bears 5-2 on the road in the only other meeting this season on Oct. 14. Hershey out shot Rockford 38-29, but Tyler Lewington and Liam O'Brien's goals were not enough in the loss. The Bears and IceHogs also met twice last season. The first ever meeting between the two clubs came in Rockford on Oct. 22, 2017 as the IceHogs rolled to a 5-0 win. In the only meeting prior to tonight at Giant Center, the Bears earned a point in an overtime loss on Feb. 24, 2018. Rockford enters tonight's game in the final playoff position in the Central Division, and with a record of 8-2-0-0 over their past 10 games.

BARBERSHOP TRIO:Forward Riley Barber notched the second hat-trick of his professional career in last night's win. Barber also previously had a hat-trick during his rookie season in 2015-16, collecting three goals and an assist in a win over Syracuse on Jan. 30, 2016. Barber now has a team-best 24 goals, good for fourth in the AHL. The hat-trick was the Bears first of the season, and the first since Travis Boyd scored four goals at Laval on Feb. 16, 2018.

SAMMY HITS 100:

Hershey netminder Ilya Samsonov is set to skate in his 100th professional game tonight. The goaltender, who celebrated his 22nd birthday yesterday, played 73 games over the past two seasons in the KHL before joining the Chocolate and White. In 26 games with the Bears, Samsonov has posted a 13-11-1 record with a 2.88 goals against average and a .891 save percentage with two shutouts..The Russian goalie has won four straight starts and surrendered two or less goals in his previous six decisions. Samsonov was a first round selection, 22nd overall, of the Washington Capitals in the 2015 NHL Draft.

CAN'T STOP, WON'T STOP:

With the win last night, Hershey set a new franchise record with points in 16 straight games. The Bears also have 10 wins in a row, two off of the club record of 12 set during the historic 2009-10 campaign. In the stretch, the Bears have allowed three or less goals in 14 straight contests, a mark that dates back to Jan. 16. Goaltender Vitek Vanecek has won seven straight appearances, while defender Aaron Ness (eight assists) and forward Jayson Megna (four goals, two assists) have points in seven straight games. Forward Mike Sgarbossa had two assists last night to extend his point streak to five games, and push him to 46 points, a new career-high.
