SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Alex Barre-Boulet scored twice for the Syracuse Crunch in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Toronto Marlies tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
Despite the loss, the Crunch are still on an 11-game home points streak as they move to 32-16-3-2 on the season. Toronto takes the six-game season series, 4-1-1-0.
Eddie Pasquale turned aside 26-of-29 shots in net for the Crunch, while Kasimir Kaskisuo stopped 24-of-26. Syracuse was unable to convert on their one power play opportunity, but went 6-for-7 on the penalty kill.
The Marlies opened scoring with a power-play goal 5:21 into the game. Pasquale made the stop on Jeremy Bracco's right wing shot, but the rebound was left in the slot for Trevor Moore to clean up. Rasmus Sandin earned the secondary helper.
The Crunch evened the score at the 12:43 mark. Carter Verhaeghe threw the puck down low for Barre-Boulet who was parked in front of the net. He received the pass and flipped to the backhand to go five-hole. Gabriel Dumont tallied a point on the equalizer.
Barre-Boulet potted his second of the night to give Syracuse their only lead of the game 1:27 into the middle stanza. The rookie tipped Dumont's high-slot shot for his team-leading 26th of the season. Ben Thomas recorded the secondary assist.
Toronto knotted the game with 28 seconds remaining in the second period to eventually force overtime. Pasquale caught a piece of Pierre Engvall's left circle shot, but it trickled through his legs and across the goal line. Assists went to Dmytro Timashov and Michael Carcone.
After a scoreless third period, Timashov netted the game-winner 3:18 into the extra frame with the help of Engvall.
The Crunch travel to face the Binghamton Devils on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
