OHL Oshawa Generals

Game Preview: Gens Take on Otters at Home Tonight at 6:05pm

January 13, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release

The Generals cap off the weekend tonight against the Erie Otters at the Tribute Communities Centre. With a big two-point performance over the Barrie Colts last night on the road and a clutch overtime win over the Petes on Thursday, the Gens hold a 25-15-2-0 record on the season. Looking to grab their third straight victory, the Gens will aim to take down the Otters at home tonight.

Tonight's matchup marks the first time the Gens will meet the Otters this season. With each team getting a game at home vs. the other, the Generals will look to grab the first win in the season series with the Otters before battling them again in Erie in early February.

After picking up wins in their past two games, the Gens continue to sit near the top of the eastern conference. With 52 points in 42 games on the season, the team holds third place in the east, sitting behind only the Niagara IceDogs and the Ottawa 67's. Meanwhile, the Erie Otters find themselves close to the bottom of the west, currently claiming ninth place with a record of 18-21-1-1 on the season. However, the Otters have been on a winning streak lately, grabbing two points in each of their past four games. The Gens will need to hold off the hot Erie team and put an end to their streak with a strong performance at home.

With the Gens making a splash before the OHL trade deadline last Wednesday by making multiple big moves, several new faces will make their home debut tonight for Oshawa. Some prominent names who have already made a huge impact for the Generals since arriving include Brandon Saigeon, Brett Neumann, and Nicolas Mattinen.

Saigeon has already potted 2 goals in his first two games as a member of the club, scoring one in the second period against the Petes on Thursday and opening the scoring in Barrie last night. Following along is Neumann, who has 3 goals since becoming a General with one in his first game against the 67's on Sunday and two tallies in a stand out performance last night against the Colts. Lastly, newly acquired defensemen Mattinen has also made a strong first impression, notching 2 assists in the OT victory over the Petes. Look for each of the new players to come out flying tonight in their first home contest as a Gen.

Join us at the Tribute Communities Centre tonight at 6:05pm to cheer on the Gens as they take on the Erie Otters! Next weekend the team will head to Kingston on Friday to battle the Frontenacs before returning home on Sunday against the Flint Firebirds.
