Game Preview: December 3 vs Huskies
December 3, 2021 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Charlottetown Islanders News Release
The Islanders picked up massive back-to-back wins against the Armada and Olympiques in their past two games. The first being a big 5-2 bounce-back win against the Armada following the disappointing loss to Quebec, and the second being a 2-1 win in the first leg of their second Quebec road trip. Now, Charlottetown heads into the second bout of this three-game road trip tonight as they enter the Arena Glencore to go head-to-head with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. The season series between these two is currently in the Isles favor 1-0 when they had an offensive outpour that saw them light the lamp seven times to the Huskies one. After the Isles took the first game at the Eastlink Centre, the Huskies will be eager to try and even the score in front of their home crowd.
Rouyn-Noranda has started this season not overshining by any means. The Huskies sit with an 11-8-0-3 record while having 80 goals scored against them to their disappointing 66 goals for. The Huskies currently have a tie for the leader of the pack. Samuel Johnson and Mathieu Gagnon both have 22 points this season. Johnson is in his third season with the Huskies and has tallied six goals as well as sixteen assists this year, while Gagnon is in his fifth year with the pack and is off to a career-best start with seven goals and fifteen assists to put him on a point per game pace. Gagnon is just one point away from tying his career-high for season scoring. Rouyn-Noranda's starting goalie Samuel Richard holds the league's second-best save percentage as well with a .915 SV% in eighteen appearances this year.
The Islanders win over Gatineau was a big two points as it had propelled the Isles into sole possession of first place in the QMJHL, however, with Sherbrooke's win over Quebec last night they have tied the Isles at 33 points to once again share the lead. The duo of Patrick Guay and Xavier Simoneau continues to be the Islanders back-bone for offense this season. Guay now leads the league in goals scored with nineteen as well as being second for most powerplay goals with eight. While Guay's favorite setup man in Simoneau sits in first place for assists in the QMJHL with 29 as well as being tied for most powerplay assists being credited with thirteen.
It will be interesting to see who gets the call for the Islanders tonight as Jacob Goobie has posted back-to-back wins only allowing three goals against two of the better teams Quebec has to offer. While Oliver Satny does still have the league's second-best GAA at 2.23 and would like to see the ice again to get back into the win column after being given the loss in the team's 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Quebec Remparts. Lukas Cormier will also be a name to look out for in the next few games as he would like to leave the team in good shape before leaving to attend the World Junior Selection Camp for Team Canada next week.
Puck drop is set for 8 pm AST tonight at the Arena Glencore.
