QMJHL Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League

Oscar Plandowski Suspended Four Games

December 3, 2021 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release

Montreal, QC - The Director of Player Safety of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Eric Chouinard, suspended today Charlottetown Islanders defenseman Oscar Plandowski for four (4) games. The suspension was handed out following an incident that occurred on December 1st against the Gatineau Olympiques.

Here is the rationale that led to the decision:

Charlottetown's player, Oscar Plandowski, had enough time to realize that his opponent was vulnerable, while he was a few feet away from the boards. However, he checked the Gatineau player from behind who hit the boards dangerously.

The message from the league is clear: A player has the responsibility to avoid making contact with an opponent from behind, even more so when the opponent is in a vulnerable position.

The QMJHL Department of Player Safety suspends Oscar Plandowski for 4 games.
