Cape Breton Eagles News Release
BATHURST - It was a tough night as the KC Irving Centre for the Cape Breton Eagles as the Acadie-Bathurst Titan romped to a 9-1 victory. Just 24 hours prior, the Eagles defeated the Titan 4-3 in overtime.
The Eagles were very much in the contest for the first half of regulation, as it was a just a one goal game when at the halfway point. It took more than 15 minutes to find the first goal.
While being outshot, the Eagles had some chances early, including Ivan Ivan being denied on a breakaway, and then earning the game's first power play when Noah Ryan was sent off. Seconds after Ryan left the penalty box, he found Jacob Melanson on the right wing and he ripped a shot off the post.
It was Bennett MacArthur who got the scoring going for the home team in the first period- first converting a drop pass, and then in the final minute finishing a feed from behind the net that he put through Rémi Delafontaine's legs. It was 2-0 at the intermission.
After the eight minute mark, the Eagles received a spark when Jérémy Langlois waltzed through the Bathurst defense for a shot on a goal- while he was denied by Chad Arsenault, Kian Bell picked up the rebound and put the Eagles on the board. However, Noah Ryan countered for the Titan to make it 3-1.
The lead would swell before period's end. Hendrix Lapierre received a pass from MacArthur on the left wing on his skate, kicked it to himself and put it by Delafontaine with his stick. Just 14 seconds later, Cameron MacLean scored to make it 5-1. Riley Kidney would finish the scoring of the second stanza when he completed a nifty passing play and it was 6-1 heading into the third period.
Period three belonged to the Titan as well- first with Logan Chisholm converting on an opportunity from the top of the crease, and then MacArthur finishing his hat trick with a shot in the top corner. The eighth goal spelled the end of the night for Delafontaine.
Nicolas Ruccia came in in relief, and was not in the game for two minutes before being surprised by a Zach Biggar shot. The goal from the Bathurst defenseman finished the evening's scoring at 9-1.
Arsenault picked up the win, stopping 17 of 18 shots. Delafontaine allowed eight goals on 40 shots in the loss, while Ruccia stopped six of seven in relief.
For the third straight game, forward Luke Patterson skated for the Eagles as an affiliate player. He was -2 and took six faceoffs.
