Game Preview: Arizona Rattlers vs. Frisco Fighters

May 19, 2022 - Indoor Football League (IFL) - Arizona Rattlers News Release

PHOENIX - The Arizona Rattlers are fresh off a bounce-back revenge win against the Massachusetts Pirates on Saturday night at the Snake Pit. They will return home for their fourth home game of the season, where they are perfect 3-0 this year.

The Rattlers will host the Frisco Fighters in what will be the second meeting between these teams this season. Back on April 30th, these two teams met in Frisco where the Rattlers took care of business, winning by two scores, 49-35. Arizona had a season-worst five turnovers that game, but were still able to win comfortably.

Home Sweet Home

The Arizona Rattlers are 3-0 at home this season, and dating back to 2014 they are an unreal 61-7 at the Snake Pit. Back on track

After their first loss of the 2022 season in Tucson two weeks ago, the Rattlers got back to their winning ways by dominating the Massachusetts Pirates 59-29 in a rematch of the 2021 United Bowl.

Arizona's offense hasn't suffered despite its 1-1 record in its past two games. The Rattlers put up their third-highest scoring total in the loss to the Sugar Skulls with 63, and their 45 first-half points against the Pirates last week was a season-high.

Looking for the sweep

The Rattlers took down Frisco in Texas on April 30th by a score of 49-35.

Frisco poses one of the more fearsome offenses in the league - it ranks third in points per game scored and second in total yards per game. This came to a head in Arizona's earlier matchup with the Fighters, as the Rattlers gave up 35 points in the contest - the most they had all year up until that point.

Arizona responded well offensively though. It scored 21 first-quarter points against the Fighters, which is still a season-high.

Fighters' run defense a unit to look for out

Frisco's defense overall is ranked in the middle of the IFL, but it does possess the league's best rush defense, allowing only 52.5 yards on the ground per game. The Fighters have also allowed the fewest rushing touchdowns in the league, and the third-lowest yards per carry mark.

Thankfully, Arizona has a bounty of rushers and weapons overall to help attack Frisco with, and they're all ready for it, too. Against the Pirates last week, the Rattlers had three different rushers and two different pass catchers score touchdowns. The instance has occurred only three times this season.
