TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (45-17-3-4 - points) conclude their season series against the Las Vegas Wranglers (35-30-2-3=75 points) tonight.
The Reign are 22-10-1-2 on the road with a current streak of 1-0-0-0. The Wranglers are 18-15-0-1 at home with a current streak of 1-0-0-0.
HOW THEY RANK:
The Reign clinched the Pacific Division on Mar. 10 with a win over the Bakersfield Condors. Ontario ranks second in the Western Conference and third in the league with 97 points. The Reign trail the Alaska Aces by 6 points. With Alaska clinching the Brabham Cup, the Reign will hold the second seed for the Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Wranglers are third in the Pacific, fifth in the Western Conference and 13th in the ECHL.
AFTER REGULATION:
The Reign may have the better shootout numbers with the league's leading 0.444 win rate compared to Vegas' 0.342, but the Wranglers have found more overall success in overtime with an 11-2-3 record for a 0.688 win percentage compared to the Reign's 10-3-4 over time record for a 0.588 win percentage.
GETTING THE FIRST ONE FIRST:
Ontario has the 2nd best record in the ECHL when scoring first with 37-2-3-3 / 0.889 win percentage. When that first goal has helped give them a lead after the 1st period, the Reign have yet to lose in regulation with a 25-0-1-3 record. Ontario's first period isn't their strongest frame in goals-for, but they have managed 77 tallies in the first 20 minutes, an area the Wranglers aren't as strong in with just 41 goals in the first period.
SHEAHAN'S TAKE LAS VEGAS:
Brothers Brodie and Brock Sheahan lead the Reign against the Wranglers this season with 8 (4g, 4a) and 7 (2g, 5a) points, respectively. Kyle Kraemer, Mario Lamoureux, and newly returned C.J. Stretch are next in line with 6 points against Las Vegas.
ROSTER MOVES:
The Reign are happy to welcome back both leading goaltender JF Berube from Manchester and one of the team's top scorers, C.J. Stretch from Oklahoma City. Both players were on AHL call-ups, Berube was assigned by the Los Angeles Kings, Stretch was on PTO. Troy Redmann (G) and Kevin Baker (C) were both released upon the return of Berube and Stretch.
Berube missed 22 games for Ontario during his second trip to Manchester where he has appeared in two games since the beginning of the season with a 4.32 goals-against average and a 0.870 save percentage. Stretch missed 12 Reign games to play in 10 Barons games where he recorded four goals and two assists for six total points, and an overall +6. The Reign are thrilled to have these key players back in the lineup and have also welcomed center Tyler Maxwell who was a waivers claim from the Bakersfield Condors.
