Yankees Comeback to Defeat IronBirds

After a four-run fifth inning, the IronBirds led 5-1 over the Staten Island Yankees, but it all got erased after a six-run top of the sixth inning for the Yankees. The Yankees would add two more insurance runs in the eighth inning and hold on to win, 9-5. Conor Mullee earned the win for the Yankees, while Stephen Tarpley got the loss for the 'Birds.

Homecoming for Kevin Gausman

Kevin Gausman returned to Ripken Stadium yesterday two years after making his professional debut to make a start for the IronBirds. He pitched two innings, allowed one hit, one run (unearned), one walk, and struck out one. He faced eight batters total.

Revenge of the Sixth

The IronBirds had a dreadful top of the sixth inning, allowing six runs to cross the plate. Stephen Tarpley allowed an RBI single to Chris Breen and Connor Spencer before being replaced by Stefan Crichton, who allowed a three-run triple to Renzo Martini and an RBI single to Thairo Estrada.

Gonzalez Stays Hot

Before coming into the series, centerfielder Jay Gonzalez was 3 for 37. But, Gonzalez has turned it on offensively this series, going a combined six for seven with one RBI. His batting average is now .229 and he now has an on-base percentage of .288.

On The Mound Tonight...

The IronBirds will send RHP Tanner Chleborad to the mound tonight. Chleborad, a 16th-round pick in the 2014 MLB Draft, has appeared in one game so far for the 'Birds this season, pitching one scoreless inning against the Hudson Valley Renegades on June 28. He allowed only one hit that inning, his professional debut.
