Lowell Spinners News Release

LOWELL, MASS. - A pitcher's duel through five innings, the Connecticut Tigers rallied for four sixth inning runs to take a 4-1 lead but the Spinners roared back with a combined five runs in the sixth and seventh innings to start their July 4th celebration early with an exciting 6-4 win Thursday night at LeLacheur Park.

Lowell (11-9) broke through for the game's first run in the third inning. Jordan Procyshen singled up the middle in his first professional at-bat, moved to second on a Danny Mars single and came around to score when Tigers shortstop Garrett Mattlage couldn't make a play on a Sam Travis grounder to give the Spinners a 1-0 lead.

There the score remained until the top half of the sixth inning when the Tigers got to Jason Garcia for four runs. Hits by Joey Pankake and Kasey Coffman led off the inning before a Steven Fuentes groundout scored Pankake to tie the score at one. A one-out single by Brett Pirtle plated another run and a two-run double by Rashad Brown chased Garcia and gave the Tigers a 4-1 lead.

The Spinners fought back for a run in the bottom half of the inning, plating a run on back-to-back doubles by Cisco Tellez and Jordan Betts.

Lowell took the lead for good however in the seventh. Danny Mars led off the inning with a double to the right-centerfield gap. Cole Sturgeon followed with a routine grounder that turned into a single after taking a funny bounce, scoring Mars. Sam Travis followed with a single of his own and Nick Longhi scored both with a double to right, giving the Spinners a 5-4 lead. Mauricio Dubon singled home Longhi for an insurance run to extend the lead to 6-4.

The lead was safe from there as German Taveras (3-1, 2.51) retired all seven batters he faced, striking out three, while Carlos Pinales picked up his New York-Penn League leading sixth save with a perfect ninth, striking out two.

Mars set the table atop the Spinners line-up with a three hit night, as once again every member of the Spinners starting nine recorded a hit. Travis and Tellez each had two hit nights and the top five men in the Spinners line-up all scored at least one run.

The Spinners now head to Troy, NY for a three-game set with the Tri-City ValleyCats over the Fourth of July. 2014 11th round draft pick Karsten Whitson makes his professional debut when he gets the ball for a 6:30 first pitch.
