Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, NY - The Williamsport Crosscutters have nine wins so far this New York-Penn League season. Seven of those nine wins have come against the Jamestown Jammers. The Crosscutters got the best of Jamestown Wednesday night at Diethrick Park by the score of 6-4. It was a back and forth affair, but Williamsport found a way to come out on top yet again.
Jamestown would open the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Left fielder Jordan Luplow would reach base with a 2-out walk, and would move to second base on a wild pitch by Williamsport starter, Matt Imhof. After the wild pitch, Jammers catcher Taylor Gushue would single in Luplow to make the score 1-0.
That would remain the score until the top of the fourth, when the Crosscutters would come up with two runs. First basemen Rhys Hoskins, and designated hitter Wilmer Oberto would both walk with one out. Third basemen Derek Campbell would then double to left field, scoring both Hoskins, and Oberto, which would make the score 2-1 in favor of Williamsport.
The Jammers and Kevin Ross would answer back in the bottom of the sixth. Gushue would lead off the inning with a double to right-center field. Right fielder Michael Suchy would ground out, third basemen Chase Simpson would strike out, but then Ross (first basemen) would come up with a huge game-tying single, scoring Gushue.
However, Williamsport would punch right back in the top of the seventh, with three runs on a sacrifice fly by right fielder Cord Sandberg, an RBI single by left fielder Jiandido Tromp, and another RBI single by Hoskins, which would make the score 5-2 Crosscutters.
The Jammers kept fighting back though, and managed to push across one run in both the seventh, and eighth innings. In the bottom of the seventh, second basemen Erik Forgione would start the inning with a bunt single. Forgione would then advance to second on a sacrifice bunt by center fielder Carl Anderson. Third basemen Dan Gamache would then rip a single to left field, scoring Forgione. In the bottom of the eighth, Simpson would walk, advance to second on a bunt by Ross, and score on a single by Anderson to pull the Jammers within one, 5-4.
An insurance run in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Campbell would complete the scoring for Williamsport, and make the score 6-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth. Unfortunately, the Jammers weren't able to rally, and would end up losing their third game in a row.
Jamestown starter Alex McRae would work four innings, give up three hits, and two earned runs. Miguel Rosario would come in to work the next two innings, wouldn't give up any runs, and only gave up one hit. Oderman Rocha would come in to start the top of the seventh, and struggled. He would end up working only 1/3 of an inning, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits. Andres Mendoza would relive Rocha, and work the next inning and 2/3, giving up one hit, and no runs. Luis Urena would pitch the ninth for the Jammers, and gave up one run on three hits.
The Jammers and Crosscutters will complete their series Thursday night at Diethrick Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm. Montana DuRapau, the 2014 draft pick out of Bethune Cookman, will be on the mound for the Jammers. He will be opposed by right-handed pitcher David Whitehead of the Crosscutters. Make sure to stick around after the game for a spectacular fireworks display presented by Jamestown Mattress!
