Youngstown Phantoms News Release

The Phantoms continue their three-game road trip in Green Bay against the Gamblers on Saturday night.

The Phantoms took the first two games of the season series back in January in Youngstown, earning a 3-2 win on the 9th, before picking up a 4-2 victory on the 10th. Youngstown is currently riding a six-game win- ning streak, and are coming off of a 1-0 win over the Bloomington Thunder on Thursday night. The Phan- toms currently sit tied for second in the USHL's Eastern Conference with the Muskegon Lumberjacks.

THURSDAY NIGHT RECAP: The Youngstown Phantoms (25-13-5) picked up a 1-0 win over the Bloomington Thunder on Thursday night. Forward Max Letunov scored the lone goal for the Phan- toms, while goaltender Chris Birdsall stopped all 27 shots he faced to collect his second shutout of the season. The win extends the Phantoms' winning streak to six games, which ties the all-time team rec- ord for consecutive wins, and places them in a tie for second place with the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the USHL's Eastern Conference.

After a scoreless opening period that saw both sides exchange some quality scoring opportunities, the Phantoms got on the board early in the second period while on the power play, when forward Kyle Connor fed Letunov in the slot, and Letunov blasted a one-timer past Thunder goaltender Hayden Lavigne, putting the Phantoms up, 1-0, 2:08 into the second period. Letunov has now scored in four consecutive games.

A few minutes later, Thunder defenseman Cameron Spicer took a shot from the point that was tipped into the net by forward Jacob Slaker, however the goal was waived off after it was determined the puck was knocked in by a high stick, and the Phantoms took their 1-0 lead into the locker room after 40 minutes.

Both teams came out firing in the third period, and the two sides exchanged a plethora of quality scor- ing opportunities, including a Bloomington breakaway that was stopped by Birdsall. With the goalie pulled, the Thunder mounted a late third period rush, however Birdsall stood tall and preserved the 1-0 win for the Phantoms.

PREVIEWING GREEN BAY: The Gamblers have dropped their previous four games, and 13 of their last 14 overall. Despite the struggles as of late, 10 of those 13 losses have been by two or fewer goals. He is currently riding a six game point streak, having accounted for five goals and five assists in that span. The St. Louis Blues prospect is on a four-game scoring streak, total- ing five goals in that span. Sioux City's Adam Johnson is the current League scoring leader with 53 points (25g, 28a).

BIRD IS THE WORD: Goaltender Chris Birdsall earned his second shutout of the season, and his USHL career on Thursday, stopping all 27 shots he faced in a 1-0 win over the Bloomington Thun- der.
