Omaha Lancers News Release
RALSTON, NE - Steven Spinner scored a pair of goals yet again and four total on the weekend as the Omaha Lancers exploded in the third period in route to a 5-1 win over the Fargo Force in front of the sixth straight sellout crowd at Ralston Arena on Saturday night.
After no scoring in the first period, Fargo got on the board for the first goal of the game in the second period. After a shot and a save by Kris Oldham the puck rebounded in front of the net and played scrambled to locate it. Brody Stevens got the final touch and pushed the puck into the net at 10:19 of the middle frame for a 1-0 lead. Assists on Stevens' goal were credited Matt McArdle and Denis Smirnov.
Just over three minutes later the Lancers even up the score. After Kyle Sylvester took a charging penalty for a hit on Shane Gersich, Omaha went to the power-play. Matt Joyaux and Louie Rowe worked the puck up to Steven Spinner along the left wing circle. Spinner skated in and looked for options and let a wrist shot go that beat goaltender Mathias Israelsson over his left shoulder to tie the game one goal apiece at 13:31 of the second period with assists from Joyaux and Rowe.
A great move by Anthony Angello in tight quarters put Omaha in the lead for good. Angello had the puck to the left of the net and looked for possible options in front of the net. When he realized nobody was there, the Penguins draft pick moved to the front, cut through the top of the crease, and slid the puck around the right leg pad of Israelsson for a 2-1 lead at 17:24 of the second period. Josh French had the assist.
In the final period, the Lancers put three more on the board. Shane Gersich started the scoring in period three with an unassisted strike. Gersich forced a turnover at the blueline as he knocked the puck away from Fargo defender Tim Faulkner. Gersich was joined by Steven Spinner on the rush but elected to shoot and fired in his team leading 24th of the year for a 3-1 advantage.
Nick Rivera joined in on the scoring in the third frame. Rivera took a pass and hurried down the left wing wall. With speed gained, he moved right around the defenseman, cut to the front, and shot the puck around the left leg pad of Israelsson for to give Omaha a 4-1 lead with assists from Michael Bigelbach and Matt Joyaux at the 4:54 mark.
Josh French created a great scoring change and after being denied, helped Spinner score his second of the night. After the big save by Israelsson, French took the puck in the right wing circle after retrieving his own rebound. Spinner waited at the left circle and one-timed the French pass into the net for a 5-1 lead. The goal was his second of the night and fourth of the weekend and came with 6:48 left in the game.
The score held up as Omaha took both games at home on the weekend and goaltender Kris Oldham only surrendered two goals in two games.
