The Waterloo Black Hawks had no trouble overcoming a two-goal deficit against the Sioux City Musketeers Friday, surging to a 6-2 victory at Young Arena.

Sioux City notched the first two goals of the game, starting at 10:52 of the first period when Adam Johnson finished a transition setup, capitalizing a pass across the low slot by Jake Ryczek. Sioux City struck again on the power play just over three minutes later when Joe Snively created a great opportunity for Joel Janatuinen between the hashmarks. Waterloo got the first one back when Brock Boeser cashed in on a rebound opportunity at 15:42, batting in a loose puck after the initial opportunity by Tom Novak.

The game turned in the second on a Larry Jungwirth breakaway goal. At 7:21, Alex Robert sprang the rookie forward behind the Sioux City defense, and Jungwirth cut across the netmouth, shifting the puck to his backhand before flipping a shot over the right shoulder of Collin Olson.

The Hawks went to the lead for the first time at 15:44, when Max Coatta capitalized on a fortuitous chance. Novak's shot was blocked but came right to Coatta for a goal from the right wing circle. Sam Rossini added one more on Novak's third assist of the game just 34 seconds later, trailing the play before receiving a drop pass and firing a shot in off a defender.

In the third, the Hawks continued to pull away at 7:21 as Boeser connected with Henrik Rommel. Skating across the high slot, Boeser put the puck to the edge of the crease for Rommel to redirect as Olson aggressively came to the top of the arc anticipating a shot. Tyson McLellan added a shorthanded empty net goal from his own blue line with 1:13 to play.

Sioux City accumulated double-digit shots on goal in every period and 50 for the game. Cale Morris made 48 saves for the win, while Olson stopped 32 shots.

Next up for the Hawks on Saturday, the team plays in Bloomington, Illinois for the first time ever. After the matchup against the Thunder, Waterloo returns to Party Town to meet the Sioux Falls Stampede next Friday.
