Tacoma Defiance (3-9-2, 11 points) on Wednesday hosts the penultimate match of the 2020 USL Championship season against Sacramento Republic FC (7-1-6, 27 points) at Cheney Stadium. This marks the fourth meeting of the season between the two sides, with Defiance holding a 0-1-2 record. They most recently met last Sunday, September 20 for a back-and-forth 3-3 draw at Papa Murphy's Park. Chino Pérez, Alec Díaz and Ray Serrano all scored for Tacoma, who earned a point at Sacramento for the second time this season.

Defiance returned to Cheney Stadium on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 win over Portland Timbers 2. Ethan Dobbelaere opened the scoring in the 28th minute and Azriel Gonzalez put the game out of reach with a goal in the 85th minute, 10 minutes after coming on as a substitute. It was the fifth meeting of the season between the two Cascadia rivals, with Tacoma winning the overall season series 3-2-0.
