Seattle Sounders FC News Release
After a gutsy 1-0 win on Wednesday in San Jose, Sounders FC (4-0-1, 13 points) returns home on Sunday to face Los Angeles FC (1-1-2, 5 points) at Lumen Field (6:30 p.m. PT / FS1, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM). Seattle is unbeaten to start the 2021 campaign, matching its best start through five games in club history (2019).
LAFC has the advantage over Sounders FC in MLS regular season play at 4-2-4, but the Rave Green have gotten the edge in the postseason. Brian Schmetzer's sided eliminated the Black & Gold in both the 2019 Western Conference Final and the First Round of the 2020 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. The two sides previously met this season on April 24, a 1-1 draw at Banc of California Stadium. Eduard Atuesta opened the scoring for the home side direct from a free kick in the first half before Brad Smith provided a second-half equalizer for the Rave Green.
Seattle earned three road points on Wednesday in a thrilling and costly midweek match in San Jose. Cristian Roldan scored the game's lone goal for the visitors as Sounders FC extended its unbeaten streak against San Jose to 14 (8-0-6). However, the Rave Green did suffer significant injuries to midfielder Jordy Delem (right ACL tear) and goalkeeper Stefan Frei (left knee sprain).
Sounders FC continues its three-match home stretch before the June international break next Sunday, May 23 against Atlanta United FC at Lumen Field (1:30 p.m. PT / FOX, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
