River Otters Most Recent Game: Saturday, February 18: Missouri 3, Quad City 2 (Shootout)

Lonnie Loach scored the shootout game-winner and Brenden Cuthbert stopped all five Mallards shooters as the Missouri River Otters defeated Quad City 3-2 at the MARK.

The Mallards struck first six minutes into the opening period when Chad Woollard rifled a deadly accurate wrister above the outstretched glove of Cuthbert. The River Otters battled back and tied the game when Jimmy Callahan took a tremendous pass from Jim Duhart and buried a shot behind Jason Tapp. Missouri took a shot-lived second period lead when Brad MacMillan skated up the right wing and fired a low shot between Tapp's pads for his third goal of the season. Quad City tied the score two minutes later when Glenn Detulleo beat Cuthbert with a top-shelf wrister. Neither team scored in the final period and the game went tied at two into the shootout. Cuthbert stoned all five Mallards shooters and Loach blasted a shot through Tapp's five-hole for the lone goal and the River Otters emerged victorious 3-2. Cuthbert made 30 saves in the victory while Tapp made 18 saves in defeat.

Jackals Most Recent Game: Sunday, February 19: Danbury 5, Elmira 4

The Elmira Jackals blew a 3-1 lead as the Danbury Trashers mounted a big comeback to win 5-4 at the Danbury Ice Arena. Two goals from Sam Paolini and one from Todd Grant put the Jackals up 3-1 with three minutes left in the second period. Danbury came right back with two Drew Omicioli goals before the period ended to make it a 3-3 game heading to the final period. The Trashers took a 4-3 lead on a goal by Danny Stewart, but the Jackals responded when Jarrett Konkle lit the lamp to make it 4-4. Then with five minutes remaining in the game, Alex Goupil powered the eventual game-winner past Ryan McIntosh. Sylvain Daigle made 25 saves in the win while McIntosh made 31 saves in the loss.

Most Recent Match-Up: Saturday, January 21: Elmira 4, Missouri 3

Kevin Cooper scored two goals as the Elmira Jackals overcame an early 2-0 deficit and defeated the Missouri River Otters 4-3 at the First Arena.

The River Otters got off to a fast start with the game's first two goals, the first scored by Jimmy Callahan and the second on a terrific deflection by Frank Littlejohn. The Jackals came back to tie the game with two goals of their own before the end of the opening period, the first on a screened shot by Trevor Burgess and the second on a deadly accurate wrister from Konstantin Kalmikov. Elmira took the lead eleven minutes into the second period when Cooper banged home a power play goal, but the Otters made it 3-3 less than a minute later when Dave Stewart took a great pass from Brian Heckendorn and slid the puck between Ryan McIntosh' legs. The lone goal in the third period was another power play tally from Cooper, and the Jackals skated off with the 4-3 victory. McIntosh made 27 saves in the win while Reiter made 27 saves in defeat.

The OC: River Otters defenseman Tim O'Connell has scored four goals in his last five games and is third among all UHL blueliners with 11 goals this season.

Count on Duey: River Otters forward Jim Duhart has scored points in three straight games, and has scored points in 24 of the 31 games he has played with the River Otters this season.

Operation Stop Sessa: Jackals forward Jason Sessa has been on fire of late with two goals and six assists in his last five games. The skilled forward has registered 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points in 30 games this season.

Reiter Snatches UHL Award: Kevin Reiter was named the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender-of-the-Week for the second time this season. The Pittsburgh-native finished the week with a 2-0-0 record, a 1.50 goals-against-average, and a .955 save percentage.
