Missouri River Otters News Release
River Otters Most Recent Game: Sunday, April 2: Missouri 3, Rockford 1
Buoyed by tremendous goaltending from Kevin Reiter, the Missouri River Otters stifled the Rockford IceHogs 3-1 at the Family Arena.
Jim Duhart put the River Otters on the board with a first-period power-play goal, the 494th of his illustrious career. The River Otters took a 2-0 lead early in the second period when Mark Odut fired a re-directed wrister behind Ronnie Vogel. Brad MacMillan extended the lead to 3-0 in the third period when he skated up the right wing and buried a low shot between Vogel's pads. Rockford got a goal from Rob Voltera but it was too little too late as the River Otters emerged victorious. Reiter made 29 saves in the victory while Vogel suffered the defeat.
Riverdogs Most Recent Game: Tuesday, April 4: Richmond 5, Adirondack 2
The Richmond Riverdogs got goals from five different players as they dismantled the Adirondack Frostbite 5-2 at the Richmond Coliseum.
Mike Berry gave Adirondack an early 1-0 lead but Mike Oliveira tied the game two minutes later. The Frostbite took a 2-1 lead four minutes later on a Sylvain Cloutier goal. Unfortunately for Adirondack the next four goals were scored by the Riverdogs as they took control of the game. Those four goals were scored by Todd Grant, Joey Bastien, Bill Vandermeer and John DiPace. Mike D'Alessandro made 23 saves in the victory while Kris Tebbs made 22 saves in defeat.
Most Recent Match-Up: Saturday, January 22: Richmond 4, Missouri 1
The Richmond Riverdogs scored three third-period goals as they defeated the Missouri River Otters 4-1 at the Richmond Coliseum.
The lone goal in the first period came on a Riverdogs power play. Dennis Mullen took a pass from Dan Vandermeer and hammered a low slap shot behind the outstretched left pad of Brenden Cuthbert. The River Otters tied the game a little over 13 minutes into the second period when Dave Stewart deftly deflected a Tim O'Connell shot between the legs of Mike D'Alessandro. Richmond dominated the final period, getting goals from Joey Bastien, Mike Oliveira, and an empty netter from Brian Goudie to skate off with a 4-1 victory. D'Alessandro made 25 saves in the win while Cuthbert made 26 saves in defeat.
In Search of 500: River Otters veteran sniper Jim Duhart is six goals shy of 500 for his prolific career. The Otters have 6 games left in the season for Duhart to try and join the 500 club. He'll need to average one goal-per-game during that stretch to reach the milestone.
Butlered Up: River Otters defenseman Tyler Butler has been red-hot of late with two goals and two assists in his most recent five games. He has registered ten goals and 14 assists in 70 games this season.
Reiter Returns: River Otters goaltender Kevin Reiter led the team to a 3-1 victory against the Rockford IceHogs on Sunday. It was only the second game he's played since getting injured March 4 in Kalamazoo.
Road Woes: The River Otters are embroiled in the funk of a four-game road winless streak, the longest current road winless streak in the league. They'll look to break that streak tonight in Richmond.
Oliveira Putting Up Big Numbers: Riverdogs forward Mike Oliveira has been putting up huge numbers all season for Richmond, He leads the Riverdogs with 52 goals and 94 points on the season.
Otters Next Game: The River Otters take on the Roanoke Valley Vipers Friday night at the Roanoke Civic Center. The puck drops at 6:30 CST, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 FM and the B2 Networks, located at www.riverotters.com.
