From the Notes

ABOUT YESTERDAY: The Indians received six shutout innings from Clay Holmes and the offense scored six runs over the final four innings to take the series finale in Norfolk, 6-0. Jordan Luplow plated Austin Meadows with a run-scoring double to right-center in the sixth inning for the game's first run. Indy then used a four-run eighth to blow the game wide open, totaling four hits in the frame. Christopher Bostick hit a leadoff homer to start the inning and Erich Weiss doubled home another run to make it 3-0. Later in the inning, Ryan Lavarnway made the most of his at-bat against Jason Gurka with a two-run double.

HEY THERE, OLD FRIEND: The Indians went 4-6 against the Bulls during the regular season last year, going 1-2 at The DBAP. The Tribe and Bulls then met in the Governors' Cup Semifinals, where Durham eliminated Indy in the best-of-5 series, 3-1. Indy dropped Game 1, 10-3, and was blanked in Game 2, 2-0. Indy returned to Victory Field for Game 3, a 5-0 triumph in which Nick Kingham fired seven shutout frames to give Indy its first home playoff shutout at The Vic. Durham used a late rally in Game 4 to eliminate the Indians, 4-3.

KEVIN'S THE NAME: Kevin Newman extended his season-high hit streak to eight games with an-other hit yesterday, going 1-for-5 atop the order. The infielder has now accumulated 17 knocks over his last seven games since May 10, tied with Double-A Portland's Tony Renda for the most knocks in all of professional baseball during that stretch. Through 15 games in May, Newman has notched a hit in 14 games and raised his batting average over 80 points (.234 on April 30, .316 after May 16).

TIDAL WAVE: The Indians have now won or split their series at Norfolk in seven of the last eight years after yesterday's win, the only setback being a 2-0 sweep for the Tides at Harbor Park in 2016. Indy swept Norfolk at Harbor Park in 2013 (4-0), 2015 (3-0) and 2017 (3-0). The Indians are 55-48-1 in Norfolk since 1988 and 52-42-1 all-time at Harbor Park.

TIP-TOP TRIBE: The Indians lead the IL in average (.279), doubles (99), triples (13) and slugging percentage (.427). The Tribe also rank second in OBP (.335), third in fewest strikeouts (264), tied for third in stolen bases (28) and fourth in runs scored (167 - 4.51 runs per game).

MEADOWS TO THE SHOW: Tribe OF Austin Meadows was recalled by the Pirates this afternoon. The 23-year-old is batting seventh and playing center field for Pittsburgh tonight against San Diego at PNC Park. In 32 games for the Tribe this year, the Georgia native hit .294 (37-for-126) with 10 doubles, one home run, 15 RBI, 20 runs scored and a team-high eight stolen bases. Pittsburgh's corresponding move to Meadows being recalled was the placement of OF Starling Marte on the 10-day DL with a right oblique strain.
