VERA GOOD NEWS: Right-hander Eduardo Vera, 24, will be making his Triple-A debut this afternoon in Columbus. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2015, Vera eased his way back into a starting role. Since the beginning of the 2016 campaign, he is 19-13 with a 3.38 ERA (111er/296.0ip) in 60 games (45 starts). He owns a 4.31 strikeout-to-walk ratio (211 K/49 BB) over the last three seasons. He posted an 11-5 record and 3.37 ERA (58er/155.0ip) between High-A Bradenton (9 starts) and Double-A Altoona (17 starts) last year, finishing second among Pirates minor leaguers in innings pitched, third in ERA and tied for fifth in wins. He also earned his first career All-Star nomination last year, doing so in the Florida State League with the Marauders.

DAY GAMES: Indianapolis will play its first day game of the 2019 season today in Columbus, with first pitch set for 2:05 p.m. The Tribe went 22-16 in day games last year. Vera is no stranger to pitching during the day, compiling an 8-3 record and 3.11 ERA (55er/159.0ip) in 51 games (21 starts) over the course of his seven-year career.

THE KIDS CAN MASH: Indy is one of five teams in all of Minor League Baseball already with six or more home runs this season. Triple-A Charlotte and Triple-A Round Rock lead the way with seven apiece, while Triple-A Las Vegas, High-A Modesto and Indy each have six. Last year the Indians finished the entire month of April (21 games) with six home runs.

RISP-Y BUSINESS: Through three games the Indians offense has totaled just three hits (all singles) in 31 at-bats with runners in scoring position (.097). That .097 average is still better than two other IL teams; Louisville is batting .081 (3-for-37) with RISP and Rochester is still hitless in those situations, going 0-for-14.

0-3 START: The Indians are off to their first 0-3 start since 2011, a year in which they started 0-4 but finished 76-68 and in second in the IL West. The Tribe also started 0-3 in 2009 and finished with a 70-73 record and third-place standing in the IL West.

SWEEP ON THE TABLE: The Indians are hoping to avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of the Clippers today at Huntington Park, where the Tribe are just 3-12 in their last 15 games. Since 1988, the Clippers have swept the Indians in four-game sets three times. The list is below:

July 22-25, 2005 at Indianapolis

April 7-10, 2011 at Indianapolis

June 28-July 1, 2018 at Columbus
