Buffalo Bisons News Release

April 7, 2019 | 1:05 p.m. ET | Sahlen Field | Buffalo, NY | Game 4| Home Game #4

BUFFALO BISONS (2-1, T-1st, North) vs. SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE RAILRIDERS (1-2, T-4th, -1.0 North)

RHP Clay Buchholz (NR) vs. RHP David Hale (NR)

Today's Game

This afternoon the Bisons close out their first series of the season with a chance to take three of four games from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Right hander Clay Buchholz will make the start as he continues to build up innings after signing with Toronto on March 5th.

Last Game: BUF 10, S/W-B 8

The RailRiders scored first for the second straight game. However, three separate times Buffalo erased Scranton's lead. It ballooned to five, 8-3, in the middle of the 4th inning. But the Herd scored seven unanswered runs, capped by Jordan Patterson's 2RBI double in a three-run 5th inning. Anthony Alford and Eric Sogard each had 3RBI in the win.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (2-1)

The Bisons went 8-8 in against the principal affiliate of the New York Yankees last season. The two teams each went 5-3 at home, including wins for the Herd in two of the last three meetings at then Coca-Cola Field from August 21-23.

Today's Starter

Clay Buchholz signed with the Toronto Blue Jays on March 3rd, and on March 28th was added to the team's injury list with a right flexor strain. The righty owns a career 88-64 MLB record, with the first 10 years spent in Boston with the Red Sox. He is a two-time All-Star and won a World series with Boston in 2013.

Eric Sogard

Eric Sogard helped lead Buffalo's offense on Saturday, going 2-4 at the plate. He launched his first home run of the season in the bottom of the 4th inning. His 3R HR increased his RBI total to a team-best five to start the year. He also scored three times for the Herd.

Bisons' Bullpen

Once again, Buffalo's bullpen was strong to keep the team within striking distance in their comeback win. Jordan Romano made his 2019 season debut, tossing three innings of scoreless relief for the win. Derek Law also made his Herd debut with 1.2 innings without allowing a run. Danny Barnes retired all four batters he faced, running his season total to 10 straight retired.

Blue Jays Update

Toronto (3-7) dropped a third straight decision to the Cleveland Indians, 7-2. This afternoon RHP Marcus Stroman takes the hill for Toronto against RHP Mike Clevinger in the series finale at 1:10 p.m. The team is off on Monday, before beginning a three-game series at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox. Boston will celebrate their 2018 World Series championship in their first home game of the year on Tuesday.
